Well a flu-ridden Christmas is finally over and another New Year’s Eve is here, so it’s time again to make some plans for the coming year.
Looking back on my plan and goals for 2008 it was rather ambitious and with the amount of client work that I had I wasn’t able to cover everything in great depth though I was able to touch on most things. Most of my efforts this year were concentrated on SEO and PPC and luckily enough this brought with it a few new clients and work on some exciting projects in challenging competitive markets.

Pay Per Click isn’t the only relatively quick and easy way to get your business listed on Google. Google Maps offers every local business the opportunity to rank on Google without the cost of PPC and a search engine optimisation strategy.
The best thing about adding your site is that it’s absolutely free. Compared to a listing in Yell that recently cost £300 + VAT or an enhanced listing in 4NI it’s a must for any local Northern Ireland business so why not take advantage.

If you’re a business website owner rather than a webmaster you’ve probably no idea on how to tell if your site has been optimised for Google.
I’ve tried to put together a few simple tests and indicators that any website owner can run to gauge if their site looks like it has an SEO friendly structure and to what extent it’s been promoted in the search engines.

For a long long time one of my top sites was at number no1 on Yahoo, not a traffic driver in any sense but it’s interesting that since I submitted the site into the Yahoo Directory, the Yahoo search engine now takes the title from the Directory rather than the page title in the actual page.
